Three Ways To Write Fractions

Fractions Worksheets on ways to write fractions

Fractions can be written using different methods. The main three methods of writing fractions are given below:

1. Writing fractions in words: Most often fractions are written in words. Many fractions worksheets for kids ask them to write fractions in words such as one half, a quarter and three quarter are all examples of fractions written in words.

2. Using numbers to write in words: This is the standard form of writing fractions. Numbers are used to write fractions in this method. For example; one half is written as 1/2, where 1 (the top number) is called the numerator of the fraction, 2 (the number at the bottom) is called the denominator of the fraction and the line between the numerator and the denominator is called the fraction line or solidus.

1/2 is read as “one over two”. 3/4 is read as “three over four”.

3. Drawing the fractions: This method is used to introduce fractions to kids and is one of the most effective ways to learn fractions. Kids in elementary grades love the fraction worksheets containing colorful drawings of shapes to learn fractions.
